L-glutamic acid
CAS NO.:56-86-0
MF: C5H9NO4
MW: 147.13
Nature:It is a white or colorless scale-like crystal, slightly acidic and non-toxic. Slightly soluble in cold water, easily soluble in hot water, almost insoluble in ether, acetone and cold acetic acid, but also insoluble in ethanol and methanol.
Application: It is mainly used in the production of monosodium glutamate, spices, and used as salt substitute, nutritional supplement and biochemical reagents. L-glutamate itself can be used as a drug, participate in the metabolism of protein and sugar in the brain, promote the oxidation process, the product in the body and ammonia combined into non-toxic glutamide, so that blood ammonia decreased, reduce the symptoms of liver coma. It is mainly used to treat hepatic coma and severe hepatic insufficiency, but the effect is not very satisfactory. Combined with antiepileptic drugs, it can also treat minor epileptic seizures and psychomotor seizures. Racemic glutamate is used in the production of drugs, and is also used as a biochemical reagent.
