Nature:A colorless, flammable liquid with a strong odor, similar to a mixture of ethanol and acetone, though the odor is mild. It is soluble in most organic solvents, including water, alcohols, ethers, benzene, and chloroform. It is miscible with water, alcohols, and ethers, and forms an azeotrope with water.
Application:In the circuit board manufacturing industry, it is used as a cleaning agent and to create conductive holes in PCBs. It is also used in other electronic devices, including cleaning CD/DVD cases, floppy disk drives, magnetic tapes, and laser heads for CD/DVD player drives. Isopropyl alcohol can also be used as a solvent in flexographic, offset, and gravure printing, and as an equipment cleaner. It is also frequently found in inks. It is an important solvent for laboratory dilutions and extractions. Furthermore, isopropyl alcohol is used as a gasoline additive and a de-icing agent for fuel lines. In the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, isopropyl alcohol is used to manufacture scrubs, hand and body lotions, preservatives, and pharmaceutical red dyes. It is also used in paints, thinners, coatings, cleaning agents and polishes, as well as for surface sterilization, hospital disinfection, and food processing plants.
